The Oregon Potters Association is pleased to announce our 2017 Scholarship Program. This competition is open to all high school juniors and seniors living in Oregon and SW Washington and will award $1000 to a student who shows creative and technical excellence in the field of ceramics. The scholarship will be awarded during a ceremony at the 2017 OPA Ceramics Showcase, the all-clay show that OPA sponsors every spring. This year the show returns to the Oregon Convention Center in Downtown Portland.
The scholarship funds will be paid directly to the college to which the student is admitted. We recommend that students with exceptional imagination and technical skill enter this competition.
Entries may be either utilitarian or decorative and must be 75% made of clay. Only one entry per student please.
The application deadline is March 25, 2017 - you must submit the following:
Mail you application by USPS mail.
After the March 25th application deadline, the OPA Board of Directors will perform a preliminary review of submitted images to choose pieces for display at the OPA Ceramics Showcase. Notification of acceptance for display will be emailed by Friday, April 4, 2017.

If accepted for display and If student lives within 100 miles of Portland
- Piece must be hand delivered to the Oregon Convention Center, on Thursday April 20, 2017, between the hours of 2:00 and 7:00 pm.
- Piece must be picked-up on Sunday April 23, 2017, between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Showcase closes at 5:00 p.m.
If student lives further than 100 miles from Portland:
- Piece may be shipped. If shipped, it must arrive before April 20, 2017, and must include a pre-paid, self-addressed return label or contact information for the person who will collect the piece on Sunday, April 23rd. Please bubble wrap and double-box to insure against breakage, per UPS or FedEx instructions.
- OPA is not responsible for insurance or for breakage during shipping. OPA will return-ship the piece using the boxes in which the work arrived.

The High School Scholarship winner will be chosen by a jury of professional ceramic artists. The awards ceremony will be held at the show on the evening of Saturday, April 22nd. The winner’s name will be posted on the OPA website:
