May General Meeting

ALL members are invited to our Friday, May 10th meeting at Mt. Hood Community College. This is a perfect opportunity to get the inside scoop about the OPA. Plans, dates, events and goals that we are working towards. This event will be a potluck so you can bring something to share if you are able. The potluck will start at 6:00 pm and the meeting will begin at 6:30 pm. We would also love to cut back on plastic, so please bring bring a plate and utensils.

We’ll be introduced to John Hasegawa, MHCC’s new head of the dept., and also have a presentation from member Nick Molatore.  Join us!  All OPA members are invited!  Potluck at 6pm, meeting starts at 6:30

After the meeting, Nick Molatore will give a talk and slide show of his visits to Guadalajara, Mexico and give an update on potters in that area.  The towns of Tonala and Tlaquepaque, near Guadalajara, are the epicenter for several styles of traditional Mexican pottery including barro bruñido, barro petatillo, barro canelo and barro bandera. Nick has visited several times with Master Potter Angel Santos who has a relationship with OPA going back to his visit to Ceramic Showcase in 2007.  Since then, Angel has used the OPA model of cooperation to inspire the potters of the area.

See photos and be inspired by these vibrant artist towns in central Mexico. Learn about the culture, traditions and art of these wonderful people.

Location: Mt. Hood Community College,  26000 SE Stark St. Gresham, OR 97030 in the Jazz Café, Room 2027 (second floor) of building 10. Please look at the "Driving Directions" below for more details and a map.
